Since the beginning of ACG, there has been a need
in the communities for documentation and information regarding the
different events and works within our organization. Initially the
means utilized were written reports and brochures, an informative
bulletin, photographs, and slides. As we moved forward we were able
to use video to record information about the attacks perpetrated by
the army against the Communities of Population in Resistance and the
preparations and return of the Guatemalan refuges in Mexico.
HISTORY: In the general assembly of ACG that was
conducted in the community of Victoria 20 de Enero in the Ixcan, the
formation of the sub commission MCS-ACG for Means of Communication
was officially approved. This commission was approved under the responsibility
of the Formation Group. At that time we begun work as the Means of
Communication with themes related specifically to communication. Then
the General Coordinator approved the creation of a commission with
the idea to support the work of a Commission of Truth for historical
records. In order to not duplicate works, an agreement was reached
to unite the two commissions into one commission renamed Commission
on the Means of Communication and Truth ACG-MCV. Its duties included
the filming, finding, and elaboration of witness testimonies, the
elaboration on the histories of martyrs, and elaboration on the simple
monuments to the martyrs. In order to respond to these duties, we
choose testimonies from the family members and friends of the martyrs
in the massacre at Xamán from which we have seen many results
in our work. Among the results are the videotape “The Massacre
that will not make us back down” and the book “The Martyrs
of the Massacre of Xamán.”
Currently, we are responding to the Specific Objective
of ACG to “Capacitate the communities to know and defend their
rights”, by following the struggle for the defense of human
rights, working in social communication and the fighting for the respect
of the dignity of the indigenous populations.
We have conducted various workshops on the Peace
Accords, Means of Communication, and Human Rights.
Every four months we have put together and distributed
a News Bulletin of ACG.
Bulletin April 2004 (Word
format)
Bulletin August 2004

Bulletin 26 August 2005 (Word Format)

We have installed in the more isolated communities
of ACG radios of communication with the objective of having a means
of communication for whatever emergency, message, and/or national
news.
“In the world of today the church can not complete
the mission that Christ entrusted to us to take the Good News to all
lands if we do not employ the means of social communication, those
which enable us to effectively reach all people.” (Agreement
of the Second General Conference of the Latin American Episcopal;
Medellin, Columbia, 1968)…
